The food preparation area equipped with
Refrigerator/Freezer, Dishwasher, Microwave, tub type sink, and many cabinets.
All electric is run in conduit to eliminate the risk of an electrical
fire. The metal walls are doubled sandwiching a thick layer of
insulation to protect the birds from extreme Texas sun and heat. The
roof also has a very thick layer of insulation making the building quite
comfortable in all seasons. It can be easily heated or cooled if
necessary. |

The center isle is sunken and side isles are slanted
towards the center. All waste and debris drops to the floor and
then can be hosed to the isle and then swept to the drain.
More plantings will be added to give a more natural but protected safe
atmosphere. |
Breeder flights have sight barriers between them
but they have a clear view of the the birds across the isle and the
outdoors and have plenty of fresh air, sunshine and an occasional shower
when it rains. |

|
Congo pair in a breeding flight - Greys
breed best when in a group of Greys and only when they feel safe and undisturbed.
In this building although they are inside it has the feel of outside and
they not only are safe but they feel safe and don't worry about predators.
|
Nest boxes are all easily accessible and
in the farthest point from the flights across the isle. They are
also on the opposite side of the flight from the feed bowls and service
isle so when feeding they do not feel threatened. They can sit in their
nestbox entrance hole and feel secure.

View from the Nest Box side.
Flights are 4'T x 4'W x 4'D equipped with a water source - we use the Bird
Butler shown in the next picture on a Scarlet cage. We also use
Lixit bottles in our Macaw house and all our baby and pet cages.
|
The Bird Butler can be purchased at http://www.birdsetc.com.
I prefer using this type of water source over a water bowl. |
