Just a few notes & pictures from new bird owners

Ralphie
  - VA

Hello Shirley,
It was a long ride to Raleigh, NC but it was well worth it. Ralphie's flight was late and I could tell he was over it. It took him a few minutes to come out of the carrier, but he seemed fine when I showed him his huge cage and all his new toys.

He explored for a while and then I covered him up for the night because it was late and he was tired.  This morning I gave him some fruit and a piece of cornbread with veggies in it I made and he loved it. After he ate he kept coming close to me and I could tell he wanted to step up so I could hold him. He likes to chew my hair (so sweet). He is still a bit shy but warming up to me quickly. He is so beautiful unlike the poor birds I see in the local pet store. I am so glad I waited and found you. I will talk to you soon and let you know how he is and send some pictures. Again thank you for my beautiful big boy.  Jennifer and family

Tiger - TX
Let me tell you about my Tiger.
He is an enjoyable, sweet bird, but thinks he is the boss of me.  It just seemed that one day he was officially in his terrible twos. He loves his new stand and wants to sleep on it all night, but I am afraid to leave him out. My African Grey has taught him to talk well.  He says "love you", "step up", "come here", "hello", and "Tiger". Those are his main words.  He is still learning.  He is very food motivated so he can shake hands and he can dance.  He loves toys and play time.  Unsalted, raw cashews and peanuts in the shell are his favorite.  He does scream when I get home, but has not made it a habit.   I have tons of pictures. When I get chance I will email you a few.  He is very pretty, but I have not uploaded them yet.  He has been very healthy and happy and we have enjoyed him.   Thanks for Tiger!!! Monica

Tiger - B&G Macaw - TX
Hi Shirley,
Just a quick update on Tiger.  As you know, he is a year old.  He is going through a molting process, so he loves for me to scratch him.  He is doing very well. We are going to go to the vet for a nail trimming soon.  He says hello, step up, Tiger and a whole lot of other things that I am not quite sure about.  He loves to eat and play with toys.  He loves ropes, wood and leather (your typical Macaw). He does scream in the morning, if I do not get his food dish back to him quickly. (He has me well-trained.) He can do a couple of tricks, but best of all, he is very lovable and sweet.  We really enjoy him.

Tiger
Shirley,
Just an update on Tiger.  He is doing very well.  He can say step up pretty clear and hello (not so clear).  He is always trying to talk.  He loves toys and he loves to be out of his cage the minute I get home.  He also knows his routine is to get out in the morning for about 30 minutes.  He enjoys
looking out of the window each day.  He does have a loud scream for me when I walk through the door when I get home.  So far, he has not made it a bad habit. My husband loves him and my mom, sister, niece and great niece were so excited to see him.  He seems healthy and happy.

Macaws are a "whole lot of bird" to handle so I can see how people get them and do not work with them.  He was overwhelming those first couple of weeks (More so than my African Grey.) But all have adjusted well.  Oh yea, he continues to eat his Roudybush well.

Thanks for Tiger!!! Monica Parks

Tiger

Shirley,
I gave Tiger a shower. His feet were getting sticky and I felt he had gotten use to me.  At first he was not so sure, but after about 45 seconds he settled in.  He seemed to like the warm water.  He is learning how to shake hands.  He is only about 50% accurate.
I really enjoy him, but after all the research I did, he is an overwhelming, huge bird and can easily take charge if I let him.  Thank God he is not a biter.  He is a very sweet bird and I hope to keep him that way.
Thanks Monica

Tiger
Shirley,
Tiger is the best bird ever.  He gets step up practice every day.  As of Friday, he stepped up from my hand from the cage.  He did it six times in a row.  He loves sweet potatoes, but he continues to eat his pellets. He tries to talk, but they are grunts. He seems happy and with daily training, I know he will be fine. He is not nearly as skittish as he was on Tuesday morning.  I play with him daily and you are right, he loves toys.
His size was overwhelming the first day, but I jumped right in and started training.  I had my doubts on Tuesday, but each day he has to come out of cage on my hand and it is going well.  He goes to a perch and from there we train.  He continues to be lovable and we pet him on his back and under his wings.  As you can see I am so excited about him.  Each day I do research to see if there is anything I can do to make him happy.  Things are going well.  I will keep you updated.
Monica

10/17/06 - AZ
Thank you, she is absolutely beautiful. She was a little nervous in her new surroundings but in no time she was playing with her toys and climbing all over in her new cage. She has been very quiet, taking little power naps off and on. She's  finally winding down from her long day. Again I'd like to thank you and everyone who helps out at Bignest Aviary

Cappy
- OH

I almost cannot believe how sweet Cappy is.
He spends his entire day outside of his cage and seems to know that morning means he can come out.
He loves my little kids. He gets very excited to see them. He is vocally very interactive.
I am hoping that the continued interaction with people with keep him friendly and touchable by people. Everybody just loves him!
He is eating very well and is getting along perfectly with my dog, Bijou.
Although still a little clumsy, over the weekend he has gotten better with stepping up and is doing it on command.
My grandson played with him a lot and up/ down was a lot of fun for them both.
Perch to chair back to shoulder....
Hope all is continuing to heal in your knee.

Take Care, Denise

Mickey - IN

Hello!  Well, Mickey is home and starting to adjust.  We had a little difficulty getting him out of his travel cage into his new home, but after we put him in his new cage and let him explore, he’s now on top and playing with one of his new toys.   Here’s a couple of photos.  I wanted to share the photos of Mickey and the kids.  I’m not sure who’s having more fun Mickey or the kids.  He is adapting very well and loves to cuddle.
Thanks again for everything!
Sincerely, The Olsens

Mickey

 Hi Shirley,
Just a few more pictures of Mickey with the kids.  He is truly a pleasure for all of us and our friends.  He went to get groomed and Dr. Lenox brought him out herself and said he's such a great pet and that she and her staff enjoy working with him.  He spends 90% of his time on his perch in the great room where everyone can talk to him, pet him and give him treats.  If he is hungry or thirsty he will fly down and walk into his cage to eat and drink then squawks when he wants someone to take him back to the great room.  He says, "Hi" and lifts his right wing.

Just wanted to share the fun we are having with Mickey and that our vet gave you high complements as a breeder.  We appreciate all that you've done to provide us with a wonderful addition to our family.

Mickey
Hi Shirley,

I just wanted to send a few updated pictures of Mickey.  He is a huge part of the family and our friends love him almost as much as we do.  He is thriving and loves his perch in the family room.  He also enjoys being outside with us on the deck.

Thank you again for giving us a wonderful addition to our family.
Sincerely

The Olsen Family

Boomer
- NY

Hi Shirley, I hope this note finds you recovering and up and around with ease. I can not say enough wonderful things about Boomer. He steps up for everyone and is vocalizing what sounds like "thank-you" and "okay". As with all new family members it is hard to imagine life before Boomer! The kids fight to spend time with him and homework is always done with Boomer. We thank-you for a terrific bird and for all of your attention to hand-raising our beautiful blue and gold macaw baby! Sincerely, Mary Anne, Alexa and Boomer

Rokko - TX

Shirley,

Sorry it has taken so long to THANK YOU for such a WONDERFUL, I can not thank you enough for being such a great influence on Rokko, YOU ARE THE BEST!!! He adjusted so well to all of us and his new home. He started speaking within one week saying “wants up” he also says thank you,& night night. He is also very active as you can see in the pictures, he truly is wonderful. Was sorry to hear about your knee surgery, yet I hope it has really helped; you were in quite a bit of pain when we were there. You have really had your hands full this breeding season; do you think the B&G’s will stop before the Gray’s start? I know you are busy will keep it short, please keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Ginger - TX

Hi Shirley,

I wanted to send you these pictures and let you know that "Ginger" is doing just fine. That is the name I chose for her. These pictures were taken last Saturday morning. My Eclectus decided to join her on her perch and she did not mind at all. I think he maybe jealous because that perch used to be his. He has a boing and rope perch near by and was able to hop over for a visit. Ginger loves being out on this perch. There are several toys hanging from it that she plays with, as well as a stainless steal bucket full of foot-toys she really loves. Her favorite toy is wood. Any kind, any shape. Just as long as it is wood. She has adjusted really well and settled into her new home. She is used to the routine, and it just part of the family. She is a real joy and we are so happy to have her.

 Take care, Ron

Sophie - OH

Shirley,

This afternoon has been wonderful!  Sophie stepped up for me and we spent some quiet time.  We talked and I gave her scritches.  She let me touch her all over and kept asking for more.  I have had her in and out several times practicing step up.  The last time I put her back in her cage she did not want to go.  She held on to my finger.  It was the cutest thing and my eclectus does the same thing.  I have no doubts that we will be absolutely fine.

I apologize for the quality of the picture.  My sister-in-law has my digital camera so we took this picture with the video camera.

Babaloo - TX
Greetings Shirley,
I finally made it home from Christmas with my family in Tennessee.  I had a wonderful time but missed Babaloo terribly.  My holiday was not the same without him with me.  Took some pics tonight.  I still marvel at his beauty, intelligence, and gentle ways!

Take care and have a wonderful New Years!  Looks like your gonna be busy!!

Babaloo - TX
Shirley,

Just a quick update to let you know that Babaloo is doing great.  He will be 2 years old in March.  The time does go by fast.  He is really talking a lot.  He loves his harness and wears it whenever we go on walks.  I'm fixing to buy him a large airline crate and "remodel" it into a travel cage for the car.  He is such a calm individual, but I'm always making him toys to keep his extra energy curtailed.  Again, thanks for my wonderful macaw.  If I had the room and time, I could have a house full.  Take care and enjoy your holidays.

Shirley,

I was interested in the flight harness for Babaloo.  How difficult is it to get them used to wearing it without chewing it off?  We will be taking some road trips later this summer, and I was wanting to get something that would make him more secure when we are out and about.

Thanks,Brian

Babaloo - TX
Hello Shirley,

I wanted to send you some up to date photos of Babaloo.  He continues to bring much joy to my life.  I never knew that I could love a bird so deeply again.  He has taken hold of my heart.  These are some pics taken last week.  He loves his new play area outside on the patio.  Of course, he is never left alone.

I'm "birdsitting" a friend's 9 month old male Eclectus until Saturday.  He is a very sweet and outgoing boy.  He is now enjoying all the different foods that Babaloo gets daily.

Babaloo is very apprehensive about him right now.  I just make sure that all attention goes to him first.  He did revert back to some of his "baby" ways this afternoon.  If he caught me fooling with Kiwi, he would lie down on his rope perch, lower one wing and proceed to make baby sounds with the bobbing of the head.  But after much kissing and loving, he change back to his regular self.

I'm just careful and give him his regular attention first.  He needs to know that he is still and always will be top bird.
Anyway, I hope that you enjoy his pictures and know that he is numero uno in my life.  I've enclosed one additional picture of our Brussels Griffon, Puckers Reynard.  We do have an "animal planet" here on Mynah Avenue, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
Take care,
Brian, Babaloo, Puckers Reynard, Williford Eugen, Grendel and the El Nino Fedencio "Fidi"

Shirley,
Just to let you know Babaloo is doing great.  He is really growing and becoming more adventurous.  I feel that he is more like a puppy than a bird.  Still handfeeding once in the late afternoon.  I'm trying to type now and he is wanting to get onto the keyboard011...he just typed the "011".  Sent you a couple of pics.  Love him!!!!!  If I had the time and space, I could have a house full of macaws.

Shirley,

The pellets arrived today for the "Boobird."  He still remains to be a bundle of love and joy in our household.  I can't imagine my life without him now!  I find myself looking at the clock at school when we get close to release time. He loves to take naps with me on the couch in the late afternoons. I can't wait to get home to see him.  He's still getting his "ketchup bottle" at night.  I'm gonna keep going with the feeding until he wants to stop.  I look forward to seeing the new babies on your website.  Take care, I'll get some more pellets when he runs low.  Pics enclosed were taken yesterday.

Thomas
Shirley:
About three years ago I purchased a Grey from you.  Just wanted to give you an update.

Boy, Thomas certainly has a vocabulary now.  Yes, I had a visitor over one weekend and forgot to tell him about how easy it is for Thomas to pick up new words.  You guessed it, the wrong one.  Luckily, he only said it for a week, but, I’m sure it will keep popping up here and there.

I have to say, that you have bread a very good animal.  He has had absolutely no difficulties physically since the purchase.  He continues to be a wonderful addition to the household and remains near the center of attention on a daily basis.  I seems we must be at least pretty good supervisors of his care as he appears to always be happy and very talkative.

My best to you and your family.
Jack

Thomas

Shirley:
Just  a short note to let you know how one of your babies is doing.  Thomas is doing fine; just like an alarm clock in the morning.  And, my, what a vocabulary.  He seems to pick up on the least of words.  Sometimes, he even goes for a walk around the block.  He’s not too fussy about his collar & leash.  Getting the upside down in the palm of the hand thing without him holding on to a finger is still a work in progress.  He though is comfortable with his being handled all over.  In the past year, he’s only slightly drawn blood on me twice.  I know he’s got a really good beak but, he’s very gentle with me for some reason.  Yup, I know he loves (???) me otherwise, there would be blood at least once a week.

I’ve let his wings grow out for now.  He’s just getting to where he can land without the typical plop on the floor.  He doesn’t seem to be too aggressive with the flight ability and doesn’t seem to just go where he wants, except to follow me sometimes when I go out of the room.  He’s take to my roommate quite well.  I don’t know that I’d call him a two person bird yet, but, he seems to be just fine with the roommate.  He will either take to a visitor and be real friendly, or not.  I don’t know whether it’s the scent of a person or whether he picks up on their vibes or what.
Well, bye for now. Jack

I bought one of your female Timnehs at the end of March, and just wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying her.  She is beautiful, clean bill of health, and oh soooo sweet.  we named her Sasha, and she has seemed to adjusted well to all of us.   She has even already said pretty bird a couple of times!!! Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for a great bird, and to let you know she has gone to a very loving home.   I would be happy to be a reference for you in the future. Thanks again
Jayne

We got our Timneh.04-24 she is pretty she will get on or hand and let us scratch her head you and Lee have done a great job with her she likes to nibble on hands but I hope she gets out of that she eats like a little pig. We named her Tabby. We are really enjoying her. Thanks allot  Lana & Jimmy

This is Robin and Bill Teague. We are the truck drivers that came out and bought a Blue and Gold Macaw from you last year. Just wanted to let you know he is doing fine. He is the sweetest thing in the world. He's not doing much talking yet but he is trying. We named him Tex since we got him in Texas. He and my African Grey don't like each other at all but the don't mess with each other. Robin&Bill

Enjoyed meeting you and seeing all of your "babies" both feathered & furred. Your young feathered Grey baby made the trip home perfectly.  He stayed in Mark's arms most of the way home.  Mark gave him some of the grapes which he ate, then he fell asleep in my son's arms (in a towel).  The two have "bonded". Have copied the bread & ingredients for same. Thank you for such a beautiful creature!  He loves him already. We bought a nice "carrying cage" at Petsmart 'til he gets back to S.A.
Jeriann

I just wanted to drop a line to let you know how my Grey is doing that I purchased from you this year. I don't know if you remember me. I'm the one that goes to Houston for business trips and I will be there this August for two weeks in which I will try to come to your farm for a visit. As for my bird, she is great. She is such a loving and attentive bird. She has bonded with me for the most part but still will pay attention to other family members. Just wanted to say hi and thanks again.
Theresa

I bought a Congo from you in Oct. 1999 and received her in February 2000.  She is a lovely bird and I enjoy her very much.  I am so very happy with Roxie and she is so gentle and is a good talker, in fact she now speaks Spanish, Egyptian, French and English.  English is by far her best language. Thank-you, EvaLena

Just wanted to update you on how "Tess" is doing. She arrived in Maryland and little shaken, but that is to be expected. She is a beautiful bird. Within about 30 minutes of getting her home, she stepped up on me and was giving me kisses by the end of the day. We really are excited to have her. Thanks so much for making the arrangements work on such short notice. Talk to you later.
Theresa

Meet Bongo

1/24/06
I wanted to give you another quick update on Bongo.  :-)  The Monday after we got him we took him to the vet for his annual and he had great results.  :-)

He settled in much more quickly than we'd anticipated, and he's calmed down quite a bit and doesn't try to fly so often.  He also got used to his sleep schedule; he used to get riled up as his bedtime neared, but not so much anymore.  He loves any toy we give him.  He also got really fast at taking apart that puzzle foot toy you gave us; thank you for that, he loves it!  He's really curious about anything electronic in the house (we keep him away from the wires) and reaches out to beak TVs, monitors, cell phones, etc.  He seems to like hearing the explanations of what they do.

He's also much friendlier than we had expected!  He likes to be petted and snuggled almost as much as our cockatiel.  :D  Sometimes he will call to us just to come over and pet his head.  He's SUCH a sweet boy and hasn't ever tried to bite anyone, not even the vet during the physical exam.  He likes to preen my hair as well, which is too cute.  :-)

He also gibbers a lot.  A lot of the time he'll try to say something, but the only thing we can make out yet is, "Hiiii!"  He says that a lot, haha.

Oh, and he got his first shower the other day!  He did pretty well.  :-)

He and our cockatiel don't seem to like each other much, more our cockatiel's fault than his.  We think our cockatiel is jealous of having some attention directed toward Bongo, so we're just giving it time.  Either way they can't play together, so it's no big deal.  :-)

Thank you so much!  We're just thrilled with him.  :-)

Natalie and Brian

Dear Shirley:

Well, the baby grey came a little later (about 15 minutes) than expected last night, but we were there waiting for her!  She got back to our house in Wellfleet just fine (it was 3 AM here by the time we got home!).  Anyway, I took her downstairs and opened the door to her carrier so she could come out at her own pace, and she decided that at three AM she was just gonna take her time and eat three of the apple chunks you sent with her.  We laughed, it was cute.  She came out after about 20 minutes of eating and became very curious about my hands and started "zipping" them, like feathers.  What a sweet bird (just like you said)!  Then I held her for a little while and then everyone was so tired it was time to put her in her cage for the night.  She spent a lot of time exploring it, then settled down and went to sleep.  This morning, she woke up early and chirped at me, probably wanting attention.  She's had carrot and apple today, besides her pellets.  She's been hanging out on a basket handle and seems pretty comfortable there for traveling around the house.  My dog, Heizie, scares her a little because he's loud and excited about the new animal.  Her name is Leili (LAY-lee).  Thank you again, so much!!!!  I'll send a picture to you soon, by snail mail.
